LANCASTER – As a free service to the community, Rep. Steve Mentzer (R-Lancaster) will host a shredder event this Saturday, June 8, and on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at Lancaster Airport, 500 Airport Road, Lititz. These events will give residents a chance to guard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.

“Identity theft is a fast-growing crime with more than 15 million people in the United States reporting their identities used fraudulently each year,” Mentzer said. “The best defense is to safely discard personal documents. This event will help you do that.”

Residents will be able to destroy any documents that contain personal information, including birth dates, Social Security numbers, bank account information and credit card numbers. Acceptable items include all paper, file folders, hanging files, hard drives, notepads, medical records, tax records and CDs/DVDs.

Individuals may bring up to three file boxes of paper to be shredded. This event is for residents only; paper will not be accepted from businesses or organizations. Staples and paper clips need not be removed. All shredding takes place onsite, and the event will be held rain or shine.

For more information, call Mentzer’s office at (717) 626-1776.
