Mentzer Secures Over $1 Million For Area Projects

HARRISBURG – Rep. Steve Mentzer (R-Lancaster) announced today that six area projects have received funding through the Pennsylvania Local Share Account (LSA) program.

LSA grants support projects in the public interest as well as improving the quality of life of citizens in the community. Projects must be owned and maintained by an eligible applicant or a nonprofit organization. Eligible applicants include counties, municipalities, municipal authorities, land banks, councils of government, redevelopment authorities and economic development agencies.

The following projects were awarded funding:
- Conestoga Township will receive a combined $420,121 for two projects. The township will receive $179,890 for a new backhoe and $240,231 for the purchase of a new dump truck.
- The Lafayette Fire Co. in East Lampeter Township will receive $1 million to purchase a new ladder truck. The ladder truck will play a critical role in the fire company's ability to respond to structure fires, high-angle rescues, vehicle accidents, and large commercial incidents. The project will improve response times and tactical efficiency, enhance firefighter safety and reduce injury risk.
- Manor Township will receive $71,000 to install new lights at the baseball fields at Creswell Park. The project will see 58 new energy-efficient light fixtures built and 12 new lighting poles installed.
- Pequea Township will receive a combined $149,707 for two projects, which will include $71,177 to purchase a new police patrol vehicle. Pequea Township has seen a 60% increase in calls for police help since 2020, and major roads run through the township, creating more responsibility for officers. The township will also receive $78,530 to purchase a skid loader and associated equipment. The equipment will be used for road construction and maintenance, backfilling and distributing materials, and preparing surfaces for new asphalt or concrete layers. The updated, fuel-efficient model meets current emission standards and will allow the township to sustain township roadways and yard operations efficiently.

“These grants will produce a major boost to efforts focused on improving and upgrading the infrastructure of the 97th District,” said Mentzer.

The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71) provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for these grants through the LSA program.
